FIREPLACE CLEANING

A wood-burning stove or fireplace requires careful maintenance.. When wood is burned it creates creosote (a highly flammable by-product of the burning of wood). As the smoke from a fire makes its way up through your chimney and out of your home, creosote deposits on the flue liner and smoke chamber. One spark from a fire, floating up into your chimney, can ignite this creosote and cause a chimney fire.

This danger can be alleviated through the regular sweeping of your chimney. Creosote, in its soft, brushable form, can be removed during a standard cleaning by our trained technicians

A fireplace standard cleaning includes a visual inspection and removal of the flaky creosote deposits from the fireplace system (the chimney flue, smoke chamber and firebox). Special rods, chimney brushes, hand brushes and a vacuum are used. Call for more details and to schedule an appointment.

MECHANICAL CHIMNEY CLEANING

Portland Oregon, Columbia & Clatsop Counties, Chimney Cleaning

In Portland, it is only after Fox’s Chimney Sweeps has done the job right, and the flaky creosote is removed (during the standard fireplace cleaning) that the glazing can be detected. Glazing develops when flaky creosote becomes baked on, and requires the use of our specialized chimney cleaning equipment to remove it. Creosote accumulation is the main reason for cleaning a chimney. If the buildup of creosote on the chimney’s inside surface ignites, a chimney fire results. Chimneys need cleaning to prevent this buildup and thus reduce the possibility of a chimney fire.

The extremely high temperatures (up to 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit) of a chimney fire can damage the chimney. The heat can warp metal chimneys and crack the tile liner on masonry chimneys, all of which pose a fire risk to a home.

WOOD BURNING STOVE CLEANING

Wood-burning stove standard cleaning includes a visual inspection as well as cleaning techniques described above to completely sweep the pipes leading from the stove through the roof.

BLOCKAGE REMOVAL

Chimney blockages near Portland Oregon in the fireplace or furnace flue is most often caused by the lack of a protective chimney cover or chimney cap. Fox’s Chimney Sweeps recommends the proper installation of protective chimney covers, chimney caps, on all openings to prevent twigs, leaves, and nesting material to enter, especially when brought in by animals (Squirrels, Raccoons, Birds, etc…).
